(EnviroNews Utah) – Concerned and downright outraged citizens congregated outside preceding a town-hall that featured freshman Republican Congressman Chris Stewart, who just also happens to be the Chair of the Congressional environmental subcommittee. The groups and individals shared a unified message that preached the same ideal from a multitude of angles: “We believe in science!”
The freshaman congressman has taken heat as of late when he made a move to subpoena scientific records from the Environmental Protection Agency, in what many deemed to be another climate-denier attack that seeks to disempower the EPA.
Utah, a state that frequently holds the top spot in the nation for the most dangerous air pollution has been in the media again lately surrounding a fierce battle that is raging in North Salt Lake City between Stericycle medical waste incineration facility, and a barrage of environmental groups that are demanding that the “outdated” incinerator be shut down immediately.
The media attention surrounding the medical waste quandary was taken to a whole new level last month when celebrity activist Erin Brockovich agreed to join the battle in an effort to put the guillotine to Stericycle once and for all.
When Bob Bockock, investigator for team Brockovich took the mic at the town-hall warmup rally, the message was one that even environmentalists in the state of Utah are not used to hearing:
The actions that that company has taken are absolutely criminal, and these people need to be prosecuted, and we’re gonna be here till this fight is over, and we’re going to see some people (multiple) go to jail for this.
Very strong words from team Brockovich who seems to be moving full steam ahead with the aim of seeing Stericycle come out like burnt toast…kind of like the dusty, ashy plumes that often billow from their short smoke stacks.
