Sarah Sargent at the Stericycle Press Conference on Capitol Hill: “It was a rotten egg and sulfur smell unlike anything I have ever smelled”

(EnviroNews Utah) – On friday August 6th, once again, after normal business hours, and after the Utah Department of Air Quality had closed their doors for the day, an amazing emergency bypass even was taped and sent into local EnviroNews Utah. The culprit this time, Stericycle medical waste incineration facility.

The video, taped by alert citizen Aaron Wiley, and broken first by EnviroNews Utah, and has since gone viral and jumped into the local and national media. Minutes after Wiley sent in the video to us, we were bombarded with accounts of the episode in our Breaking News box and on our Community Watch.

One of these accounts came in from a young mother and Foxoboro resident by the name of Sarah Sargent and we included her account in our accompanying article and here’s what she had to say that night:

Tonight my son, 6 years old, was playing outside when the bypass event happened. He rushed to a friends house because he said “the cloud of dust so bad he couldn’t see anything and he thought he was going to die”. He was very shaken up.

I went outside a little bit after the huge cloud passed (I was not aware the bypass had happened till later). People who were involved in the 5k race were in a state of panic, shouting back and forth at each other. Two moms were rushing around looking for their kids because in the giant smoke they had lost them and were unable to find them.

My entire house has had a putrid smell all evening. Unlike anything I have ever smelled before.

The video in turn led to a press conference being called on Capitol Hill, where it was played on repeat, next to the podium where speakers took the mic, all with the same demand, a demand that calls for the immediate emergency shut down of Stericycle by Governor Gary Herbert by executive authority.
