Mother Speaks Out About Her Child’s Severe Asthma at the Rio Tinto/Kennecott Lawsuit Press Conference
(EnviroNews Utah) — Salt Lake City — In this segment, Lori Scow, mother of Ava Scow speaks out about the devastation that “red air” day pollution has wreaked on her family and her daughter’s health, at at press conference regarding Rio Tinto/Kennecott Utah Copper. She goes onto to explain how her daughter needed a breathing treatment at the press conference just from being outside long enough to walk from the car to the building.
During the event WildEarth Guardians, alongside of the Utah Physicians For a Healthy Environment and the Utah Mom’s For Clean Air, announced the filing of a joint lawsuit against Kennecott Utah Copper.
The suit claims that Kennecott is responsible for a disproportionate amount of Utah’s dangerous air pollution and has consistently violated its pollution permits as well as EPA standards.
Panelists at the event also cited numerous externalities such as massive air pollution related medical expenses as a byproduct of Kennecott Utah Copper’s operations.
