(EnviroNews California) — Los Angeles — Famed environmental activist and subject of the Academy Award-winning movie ‘Erin Brockovich’ is set to appear in Salt Lake City, Utah on the 28th of this month to speak about one of her newest environmental battles — The fight against Stericycle and the burning of deadly medical waste.
The press release that was sent out containing all event details reads as follows:
“Close It Down” March to Stericycle
Erin Brockovich Coming to Utah to Lead the Fight
to Close the Infamous Medical Waste Incinerator
Stericycle, the medical waste incinerator in North Salt Lake, is under criminal investigation by the state and federal government for grossly exceeding the pollution limits of their permit, and falsifying the records. And if that wasn’t enough residents have witnessed dramatic and excessive “bypass” events in the last few weeks, proving Stericycle is not in control of their own facility. Stericycle is a clear and immediate health threat to our families and Erin Brockovich is coming to town to help us close this incinerator down.
What: Erin Brockovich and her investigative team joins Communities For Clean Air to host a Town Hall Meeting followed by a “Close It Down” March through the Foxboro neighborhood to Stericycle.
When: Saturday, Sept. 28, 2:00 pm.
Where: Foxboro Elementary – 587 North Foxboro Drive, NSL, UT 84054.
Why: Stericycle is a company that has been caught emitting more toxins than allowed on their permit, and falsifying documents in an attempt to cover it up. They even mislead us on their own website (Stericycle.com) claiming they “provide solutions that protect people and brands, promote health and safeguard the environment” as well as “We are honest and open in our interactions with others. When making decisions, we always do the right thing.” We are demanding Stericycle, DAQ, the Governor and the EPA “do the right thing” and shut down this public health hazard now!
